Upcoming Valdez Creek trail ride information.
This ride is scheduled for July 4th to July 7th. (Some of us will be departing the morning of July 3rd). You may stay the whole time, or come and depart anytime, whatever works best for you. To get there, expect about a five hour drive from Fairbanks. Drive to Cantwell, then turn on the Denali Hwy. Drive till you get to the Susitna River bridge and cross over it. Shortly after you cross the river (0.25Miles) there is a road that takes off to the left. This is the Valdez Creek Mine road. This road is very rough in places but a two wheel drive vehicle can make it. About one mile on this road, you will cross a creek. It is fast moving but usually not very deep. About mile 4, you will come to a washed out area with many rocks. Take it slow. Our camp will be up this road on the left side about 7 miles from the Denali Hwy. It is in an open area that is above the tree line so the bugs are not too bad. I will try to post some FST signs along the route.
The ride is considered one of the best rides that our club participates in. There are miles of trails to explore. Some trails are in valleys with alpine lakes, and others are on mountain ridges. There is some active gold mining so we will try and avoid those areas.
If you have some firewood, please bring it.
