Upcoming ride. On Saturday November 18th, I will lead a ride from Cleary Summit to the Chatanika Lodge. We will have lunch there before returning to our vehicles. Total distance will be around 40 miles.
To get to the trailhead, travel on the Steese Highway and go past the Ft Knox exit. At the top of the hill, turn right on Fairbanks Creek road and stay right. About 1 mile in, the road ends and there is a large area to park. Plan on departing the trailhead at 11:00am. (The lodge is on winter hours and does not open till 12:00pm). Most of the ride is easy with some climbing and descending, but there is a short steep area that can be tricky to deal with. The ride is open to anyone but if you are new to snow machining, I would recommend that you to pass on this ride, and try going on the next scheduled ride on November 25th.
