Fairbanks Snow Travelers

I've never been to Fairbanks, but, I have a job offer to work there for a couple of years.

Be honest... is Fairbanks an area where people WANT to be? What's going on in Fairbanks? What is the sledding like? Are there any crazy single girls? Is the beer cold? Are there cool places to rent? Any information will help.

1st, where you coming from ??

OK, I love Fairbanks, but Fairbanks is like most of Alaska, you either love it or hate. Temps range from 80 above in summer to 60 below in winter and all points in between.

Were a small community, about 80,000 people in the borough (borough, county, municipality all the same thing)

Sledding is great most years or a short drive to major powder areas, I ride from my back yard most days.

Cold beer....... Everythings cold in the winter

How crazy you talking? Or what kind of crazy I should ask. I've lived in Alaska all of my life. Here is how I see it:
Fairbanks has the land. Trails for basically every kind of outdoor sport you can think of. Especially for winter sports. People can be very sociable or very recluse. Just depends on the kind of person you are. I like Fairbanks in comparison to Anchorage (the big city in Alaska) because there are less municiple rules relating to motor sports. In Fairbanks you can ride right down the snow covered side walk to get where your going. This is getting more strict, but you still can. I love it! Anchorage you have to trail your sleds way out of town to do any riding. We do here for mountain riding. There are alot of cool single women here in Fairbanks and depending on how crazy you are I can introduce you to a few. Dancing and going to the bars on the weekends is what alot of people here do for fun. Not too much otherwise exept for the movies, bowling, symphony, and other stuff if you search for it. There is hockey though!! :D That helps pass the time. And just so you know, this is an absolutely wonderful group to join! Especially if you don't know anyone to ride with. They scheduled rides for every weekend last year and there are alot of different styles of riding available. Come check us out when you get here. I just moved to Anchorage from Fairbanks and I prefer Fairbanks for sure! The cost of living is a little cheaper here though. I am very glad that I do not have to pay $2.50 a gallon for heating oil this winter. Ktease you can ride 45 minutes out of Anchorage at Turnagin pass where it is steep and deep! I plan to still do the majority of my riding in Cantwell.

What did you get ktease? If memory serves you had a F7 last year with a longer track etc.

Jro, you sound like fun. Have you made your decision yet? Weather today is sprinkling rain. It frosted for the first time two days ago but melted pretty quick. Temps are still in the 50's during the day dropping to 30's at night. You won't lose any body parts unless you get attacked by the neighborhood watch people.

My new sled. :D Bought a 2006 Polaris RMK 700 151' from Scott in Delta. It was his demo sled last year and so it has alot of aftermarket parts and changes that he made to it. I am glad I bought it from him. The service is excellent. I'm excited!
