Cantwell Feb 12th

#1 Post by irshpryd40 »

As much as Wife and I want to ride we don't miss NASCAR so Daytona is priority that day. But if anyone wants to ride some powder I am heading back to Cantwell on Friday with a few people I probably will have room for one more sled on my trailer if anyone is interested.

Chris,

You should have a great trip.....
Tuesday
Snow...mainly west of the Parks Highway. Elsewhere...snow in the morning...then a chance of snow in the afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches...except 6 to 12 inches west of the Parks Highway. Highs in the mid 20s to lower 30s...except mid teens towards the park. Northeast wind 15 mph.
Guess I took Evan the wrong way, we should of headed west instead of east.

Yeah the riding to the west is always better. It has been snowing there since Saturday. I will be leaving North Pole around 6 a.m. with 3 sleds on my trailer. I have room for one more if anyone is interested in going Friday morning. We usually leave there by 4p.m. Also anyone else interested in following down that is cool as well. I know the area really well so leading a ride there is no issue. I plan on hitting some of our powder holes then heading down the river to the Dunkel Mine area. The snow out there is great and usually not to busy so lots of area to play in. PM me if interested or reply to this post.

John,
I looked for you at the cafe on Saturday but you had already left. Was not sure where you were going riding at.

I would love to go but Friday is my birthday and the wife already told me not to make plans. I can only imagine how *beep* she would be If I told her I was going riding.

Sorry we missed ya. we drove to 165.5, it's Pass Creek, and rode back in towards the Susitna River. lots of fields but alias, no real hills to climb for Evan :sympathy: .

Since you know that area "so well" how about you lead the ride on March 20-21 ?

I'll be driving the motorhome down for that run and parking at the pull out just south of Igloo, I like going down on Friday, usually get my pick of parking area :tounge:

Guess we share the same birth day! Yeah I can see how if your wife made pans things could get bad lol My wife would kill me lol. If you change your mind let me know, there is always room.

John,
Leading would be no problem, just not sure if I will be here during that time. Wife is moving to Fort Drum and I am retiring from military so I might be in NY by that time. I am not much of a trail rider though. About the only trail I ride is to get to the mine then after that it is all boondocking and hill climbing. Not sure if the ridiers going would be willing to do all that. Not to mention it probably would not be a ride for beginners more like Intermediate to Advance riding. I will keep you informed as to where I will be as it gets closer. If you are up for a good ride this Friday let me know.

Got to work Friday or I'd go :<(

Boy, we got to get you guys in training class "How to get the wife to let me ride" 101.... Its kind of like hunting season, just longer.

usafracer: Bring along a cake a very special birthday gift that would have so much more appeal if opened under a nice clear sky with lots of snow around..... (you get the idea)....

irshpryd40: It does depend on the riders and I always classify my rides, so if its a Mtn ride for Interm - Advance riders, that should be easy to just say so up front. We can actually have two groups on trips like this. I know where your talking about but haven't been into, yet. Was hoping to explore that area a bit more and wouldn't mind having someone show me.

I wanted to do more exploring where Evan and I went, but the Willows were still pretty thick and mountains I want to cross still showed lots of bare ground where we were at. Of course you young'uns have to be easy on us Old farts... :rolf:

John,
Could always "call in sick" LOL. Yeah my wife has no problems with me riding, she rides as well so it is real easy for me. If I am still here over that weekend in March I will lead a ride down to Cantwell. I think 2 groups would be great as for anyone who would not want to ride in the hills/real deep stuff. I can show the area to you any time you like. I don't work any longer so any time is alright with me. Just not NASCAR days lol (sundays usually). I will try to be at the Feb meeting and offer the leading of the Cantwell ride then. I should know by then if I can do it or not.

My wife is not going to be happy when she gets home. I hung my sign up "We interrupt this marriage to bring you NASCAR"

At least she supports me when I start racing at Mitchell in the summer. She sits on the trailer and drinks LOL.

Evan,
I will call you this morning some time. I have a 4 place trailer so room is not an issue. Did you get the 155 or the 163?
