Hello everyone,
I just moved to fairbanks and I live just out the back gate of ft wainwright off of holmes rd. I would like to know if there are any local trails that people use and can get around on and connect to some of the other main trail systems. Also is there anyone who might live in my area that would like to meet up and ride when there is a little more snow. thanks for any help you guys can give. I will be at the next meetings so hope to meet people to ride with.

Welcome to the site and the club.
Lots of trails from NP to the trail systems. You can go out the back gate and keep riding the ditch to the end of the road, a few miles at least, and hit the Pipeline trail. It'll be better when the river freezes up, then you can almost anywhere.
Better to trailer though or smoother as a rule. Check out some of the maps and you'll see what I mean, although there are a lot more trails than we have listed so far.
So what are you riding ??

thanks for the reply John. I ride a 2008 ski-doo 600RS and my wife has a 1990 polaris indy trail. I can't wait to get riding, I have been bee-boobing around on my wifes sled around my neighborhood. I am waiting for the new clutch kit for the 600RS to make it a little more trail friendly. Once thats in next week I hope there will be enough snow for the nome ride you guys have planned. thanks agian and hope to meet you guys soon. Patrick,

Patrick, I am new also, i was recommended to this site by a coworker. I would like to go on some rides, but think I may have an issue with fuel with my 03 Pro-X 600, I am guessing I will only get about 80 miles off a tank, I hear fuel stations are a problem. Some local rides would be good, i hear the ride out off chena pump road is good. I may also make the trek down to summit.

That sounds great im looking for people to meet up with and ride locally then hit up the bigger trail system. I think you should be ok with the pro-x 600. what size fuel tank do you have on there is it a 10gal or smaller like my 4gal. you should get around 90to 100 miles out of your sled if you have a 10gal tank. cause my sled is a pigg on gas and I still get around 9mpg. I will be at the next meeting so hope to see you there. my name is Patrick, are you also in the military.

That sounds great, will you guys all be at the next meeting so I can meet you guys. I just can't wait for some more snow to hit so we can get to the riding. I heard this club was a great bunch of people and have good rides. Thats why I joined the club. I come from upstate new york and rode with about 8 good friends every time we went out. I hope to do the same up here with this club. So what are you riding on Jeromy.

Patrick, the Pro-X has the stock tank so is around 10 gallons. I dont know how 4 gallons will be up here, you could put a larger one on i assume. Yes i am military also, I live outside trainer gate. Once the Chena freezes and gets good Ice, i could make it on the otherside of base easily. So your from upstate NY? I sed to ride at tug hill when i was stationed in DC. I was a sledfreak!
We can always rent a trailer on base and find the snow if need be. Tim

Sounds like you all are as antsy as I am to get some saddle time in

80 Miles on a tank should do for most club rides, but I'd add a small can of spare gas if I was you. Sometime we get lost and you might need that extra gas to get back.

Hey Tim,
I use to go tug hill and old forge all the time when there was limited snow around my area. I lived only about an hour and half away from there. some times we would drive the trails to get there or trailer if we brought the familiy. But from DC man you must have been a sled head. I was stationed in Virginia and that is like a 12 hour drive from door to door so you were driving at least 7 to 8 to get up there and ride. big props to you my friend, as far a trailer rental that sounds great I totally forgot they had those rentals on post. I already have my sled set up for the trail with a new top gear and ten and half gallon tank. just waiting on the new clutch kit and im ready to ride. Hey what unit are you in. Patrick,

Patrick sent you PM about the specifics you asked for.
Jeromy, I was thinking the same but cant bring myself to dropping 10 grand for a new dragon 800. I left the 2 1/4" track on my Pro-X in case i want to go to summit.

Hi All,
Well can't help but see that there are alot of you here in NP ready to ride. If any of you are looking for some good riding in the powder look me up. I know of a few good places. Summit is alright as long as it is real deep. It is really rocky there and you tend to tear your stuff up there. Last few times I have rode there my buddies have torn tracks etc. Lucky me I have not had that issue. I too used to ride in up state NY. I was stationed at Drum for 5 years. They really had some nice trails up there. You could go about anywhere you wanted to. Cantwell is alot of fun and then there is McClaren. That has about some of the best riding up here. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday during the club ride. Drop me a line for the following weekend a bunch of us are heading south to go ride some powder down there.
For the one who wants to get the Dragon 800 here is mine.
