Dec 17th Ride @ 10:00 AM

#1 Post by john »

So with all the snow falling, or due to fall, how about a ride on the 17th.

I'm open to lead either up the Chena Hot Springs area, say from the pull out across from the Rose Hip camp ground, approx mile 25 CHSR, or

42 Mile Steese into the Whites and to Richards Cabin, or ?

Open for ideas and suggestion on either one above.

The Whites might have better snow, then again they might not if it's all wind blown.

OK, think I'm going to ride from 42 Mile Steese (McKay Creek) to Richards Cabin. Its a 21 mile run, one way.

Should be enough snow to do some playing west of the cabin.

Plan is to meet at Chatanika Lodge at 9:00 AM for breakfast and then head to 42 mile.

Who all wants/plans to go.

Update on Breakfast.

Ronnie and Shirley said they'd open at 9:00 AM for a club run.

Big Question, How Many to Expect.

Please let me know if your planning to come out Saturday, so far I have 2.

As it now stands we only have 1 confirmed rider besides me, so I'm going to change the meeting time to 10:00 AM at Chatanika and let Ronnie and Shirley sleep in :)

I still plan to lead, we'll just be leaving later.

We are new to the club and are interested in the ride on Saturday. What's the skill level? We're not beginners but definitely not experts!

John,

How was the ride, snow conditions. We haven't been out that way yet.

We rode to Iowa Dome yesterday. Alpha C Site Trail is very good. Main Fish Creek crossing not usable yet, downstream crossing, east, is fine. Hill Billy Highway rough, but quite do able. Iowa Ridge Road from Hill Billy Highway to Iowa Creek Trail head great, pin city. We didn't go down the Iowa Creek Trail but it has been used.

Snow was good, ride was great. Very few tracks, the only tracks we saw were made by 7 Chopper Pilots that just got back from Iraq, nice bunch of guys on some old iron having a weekend out at the cabin.

Started out with 5 of us at Chatanika, Adam's sled got service light, so he headed back after first 3 miles or so, then we ran into another rider looking for us and join up on our way back out.

Image in the album.
