Temps and Wind

#1 Post by john »

Anyone been out to Cleary lately ? or further east on the Steese.

Curious as to how the snow is holding up after the high temps last week and now this wind.

Might hose up our trip Saturday to 42 Mile Steese.

Cos and I were at mile 101 last weekend and there is just enough snow. Might be more now. It had a crusty top from the warm weather but ride-able. seemed to me more snow closer to town.

Hey John,

Although we had a fair amount of melting up here with temps. to 45 and wind gusts to 66 it snowed last Sunday and it looks OK up here on Cleary Summit. Don't know anything about further up the creek. Made a trip to town yesterday and on the way home the electronic sign at the weigh station at Fox was advising against travel up the Steese at Eagle Summit. Should be fine to mile 42.5. Pretty windy up here right now but the roads are OK. You might give Ron at the Chatanika Lodge a call, 389-2164, today and see if he has heard anything about conditions in the Whites. Check our weather here on Cleary at:

Camped out in the Whites - Started at Davidson Ditch. Some drifting, but it was a nice ride. Road out to Ophir, then down Nome Creek. Had fun.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Yes,
I've been from the Central side of Summit over Rosebud down into boulder creek. The trail is in great shape. Kind of skinny on Eagle (as allways). Snowing there yesterday so that could help until the winds come along.

Snow is deeper in Birch creek up to Rosebud ridge. The ridge is in good shape. Someone ran up there from N. F. Chena earlier in the season. That helped keep a narrow trail of snow on the ridge. (remember that for next year)

Last year all was well also until the weekend prior to race day and thats when I showed up with the clubs groomer and the snow was gone.

Look for the leaders to start showing up around 22-23 Feb.
