General Membership Meeting

Meeting took place at Compeau’s on 01/16/2019 at 7:00pm. 17 members were present.

Reviewed minutes from last General meeting and approved them.

Finance report: Checking $3183, Savings $3293, CD $1504. Total $7980. (The money for the two Polaris 120cc snow machines that were sold was deposited into the savings account).

A discussion was held about what location the club should go to for the sweetheart sled run this year in February. The nominations were: Monderosa, Two Rivers Lodge, and the Chatanika Lodge. After a vote, the Chatanika Lodge won. This may not be a permanent change, and it will be evaluated for future years.

Steve Enochs talked about sponsoring a class for women and new riders. It would begin with indoor training on clothing and safety, then an easy outside ride. Class size would be limited. The intent is to get more folks into snow machining that would not normally enjoy the sport.

Terry gave an update on what is currently happening with the trails in the Cleary Summit area. DNR has backed off a little on closing the trails to motorized vehicles. There is still much work to be done on this subject, including writing letters to our legislators. One a different subject, he is looking for old handsaw blades to make a tow behind brush cutter for trails. He showed a scale model of the one that he has visions of building.

There is a bill in the current legislation that will increase the snow machine registration fee from $10 to $20. The intent of the money earned would be used for trail maintenance. (trail grooming). Steve gave our group history on the current registration fees, and said almost all the money earned goes to the Anchorage and Kenai areas. Very little to none, goes to the northern region of the state. Tim to write a position report for the FST club saying we do not support the increase. Steve will review before it is forward upward.

Board elections were held. Everyone nominated was voted in. After the meeting, the new board member got together and decided what positions they will hold. The 2019 Fairbanks Snow Travelers board members and positions they hold are:

Past President John Johnston
President Steve Enochs
Vice President John Lubben
Treasurer Dan Cryer
Secretary Evan Keil
Board Member Stoney Robertson
Board Member Tim Schackman

Meeting adjourned at 8:45pm
