November 29 Chatanika Loop Ride

#1 Post by cleary »

Looks like this isn't going to happen. Little or no snow in the forecast. I think this is the 3rd year in a row we have had to cancel this one.

Sorry,

Chuck

Anyone do any riding this weekend to check snow levels and conditions? I took my sled to the shop and serviced it. I'm ready to ride. I hear we are having 2-3" more of snow tonight and tomorrow.

I couldn't wait any longer and rode 5-7 miles with my sons. We went on the trails near my home on Murphy Dome Rd. Rough! Won't do that again until we get more snow. Fun anyway, but need a foot or so to make it more comfortable.

Hey James, how you doing? I know what your talking about. We had friends come up from town and Anchorage for the holidays. They didn't bring their sleds as I had told them not to. One of them did bring his Polaris 6 wheeler with tracks. Friday they couldn't stand it any longer and headed for Chatanika with the 6 wheeler and our 4 wheelers. It was so bad that I had to hitch up the trailer and go to the Lodge to haul them home. We need a least a foot, two would be better.

Cheers,

Chuck

I rode the Fairbanks creek area and took some of the trapper/jeep trails. It was nice to get out. Put about 30 miles on the sled. Never hit bottom (rocks/ground) but did hear the skis encounter a little ice about ten times. I rode FBC to the end where the gate is and back with a few side trips on trails. Nice ride overall. I am new to the area, so if anybody has some suggestions for this weekend please let me know. Brad
