:4x4: we are leaving town Wednesday after work don't know if we'll make it all the way there as were going the Paxson side
due to the fire and construction delays on the Cantwell side
It's about 40 miles longer that way
Any way we'll be there through sunday about noon we usually go in about 7 miles up the mine road to the first flat area before the mine lake it is a huge flat area that gets some breeze to keep the mosquitos away.
.rides will start about 10 am go for a couple of hours its real easy riding :supperhappy:

You might want to contact the Alpine Creek Lodge to find out the condition of the Valdez Creek Road. Several years ago we started in there and found that Windy Creek had washed out the road. That is about a half mile in from the the Denali. Had to back up quite a ways to find a spot wide enough to turn around with a 20 foot trailer. There also is a good trail up Windy Creek. Goes 17 miles up the creek to an old copper mine that might be in operation now.

:4x4: We all had a great weekend. We camped 6.5 miles up the mine road near the first summit. We could see the Susitna river and surrounding hills. The rain was mostly at night . The day trips were great we had 15 fourwheelers and 17 people were there. There were 4 kids - teenagers there. We ended up with 180 miles on the fourwheelers by sunday.
Larry didn't even get stuck on this trip! :supperhappy:
he did show us how to float a yamaha down stream though ! :rolf:
We had plenty of peanuts to eat at the camp fire.
the food was overwhelming,I think I brought back more than I took!
We didn't see as many animals as we've seen in the past trips though.
There were more miners up the creek this year also.
I'll post some pics later.

Hey David,

Two ways to get to Valdez Creek.

Parks Hwy south to Cantwell, take the Denali Hwy towards Paxson to the Susitna River, the Valdez Creek trail is just past the river.

Option 2 is a bit longer but will also take you to Summit which is off the Richardson Hwy about 9 miles before Paxson.

Richardson Hwy south to Paxson. At Paxson take the Denali Hwy towards Cantwell, Valdez Creek trail just before the Susitna Bridge.

Map shows the Denali Hwy and Sustina Bridge, red flag is the turn off to Valdez Creek.

The Denali is now closed at the Susitna River bridge, limits your options to the Paxon side

Here's maps of our wheeling on the eastern portion of the Denali Highway.
