February 17

#1 Post by paulneva »

 Four of us rode down the Tanana most of the way to Nenana today to check the trail for our 17 February ride. It was great! There is some jumble ice that you can't get around - but it has lots of snow cover. There were a few places where the ice is a little thin - but we never hit open water. As hard as we tried, we were unable to pack all the snow off the trail - there is still plenty left. And the trail itself is so well packed that we would really have to work at getting lost this year. It should be a great ride!

This will be a family ride, its pretty easy as it follows the river the whole way down and back.

Meet time is set for 9:00 AM

Distance is about 58 miles each way, so 116 RT, not including playing in the powder on the side :)

We'll be having lunch at the Monderosa in Nenana, which is usually an hour and half affair and gas up at the Nenana gas station when we start to head back.

Figure on being back to town around 5:00 PM (give or take), so it is an all day ride with Mondo Burgers for lunch and a few breaks on the trail.

Was planning on this ride but I tore all the ligements in my ankle Friday riding the float pond near the metro airport. So looks as if my riding is done this season. Maybe healed enough for the cantwell ride end of march....fingers crossed.

Hope you heal up and all is well soon.

Yes we will and yes we did. I always call them the week before and at the star point to let then know how many are coming.

Last year there were also some other groups that down, can't account for them.

Anybody in the North Pole area have room for a sled on their trailer? If my Army buddy doesn't want to join us, and I can't locate a trailer before the weekend, Id gladly pick up gas to the put in point.
