Feb and Mar 2013 rides

#1 Post by paulneva »

We still have openings for rides on 2 February and 30 March. Anybody up for leading a ride on one of those dates?

Hey Paul,

I placed the Gilmore run in the 2 Feb spot and it looks like you still have Feb 23rd, March 2nd and 30th open.

I'd consider doing a Cantwell run March 30th if someone would co-lead with me. Maybe a run into Caribou Lakes from Summit, or simply head out of Summit and work our way back towards Caribou, would be a mountain machine run I think figuring that the trail would not be open.

Don't know who else might know the way in from there, not sure I do, only been on it a time or two and the last was a few years ago.

We could discuss it at before and decide.

John,

I have been up that trail twice and, except for one little section where you have to get on a ridge to get around a field of willow, it has been pretty well used. I don't think you will have any trouble getting in that way. It was a great ride. :grtruckn:

irshpryd40,

Is that Chris?

Shall I put you two down for Caribou Lakes from Summit on March 30th?

With the AHTNA issues I'm not so sure it's getting the use it use to, but we'll see.

Yes to putting Chris and me down to lead it.

I'll update the ride info as we get closer to it.

Sorry,
I wanted to go but, I will be in the Philippines. Not a lot of snow to ride on there.

Let me know if you sneak in a late season ride. I would be interested.

Summit Lake on Saturday was awesome. Definitely worth a trip back. There is about a 4-5" top layer that is pretty firm, and 2-3' below that across much of the range. My 128" track actually fared better than the 3 mountain sleds that were in my group. If you break through the top layer, you gotta get on it, else you will just trench. I didn't climb as much as they did, but when I did, I had no problems getting up some of the steeper stuff. I really wanted to work on my carving skills, but the frozen top layer just wouldn't budge enough to make it worth the effort.

Is there any ride scheduled for this weekend?

Cantwell was Clear and warm saturday and sunday
The snow was marginal the sleds were only sinking in about a foot
the ride was great any way. there were 9 of us, 4 from the club and 2 from the military that recently returned from overseas and 2 other family members.
Members with the utility sleds and short tracks, nows the time to go and see some great senery
