January 28th ride

#1 Post by paulneva »

The 28 January ride is changed from the White Mountains to the Tanana Flats. The ride will depart from the boat landing/day park at the end of Chena Pump Road at 10:00 AM and should be back before 3:00 PM. It will be a nice, easy ride of about 50 miles ideal for families and beginning riders. We will ride down the Tanana River for a few miles and then go into the Tanana Flats. The Tanana Flats is a real wilderness right outside of Fairbanks. There are no gas stations or lunch counters so riders are advised to have a full gas tank and bring their own lunch. If the temperature is colder than -20 at the airport at 9:00 AM the ride will be cancelled.

Got a feeling this is going to be a warm fire and good book weekend
...VERY COLD WEATHER THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE INTERIOR...

ONE OF THE COLDEST AIR MASSES OF THE WINTER NOW LIES OVER NORTHERN
ALASKA. IN CLEAR AREAS OF THE ARCTIC SLOPE AND WESTERN INTERIOR
TEMPERATURES HAVE FALLEN INTO THE 40S AND 50 BELOW ZERO.

MUCH OF THE EASTERN INTERIOR REMAINS CLOUDY THIS MORNING...BUT
CLOUDS ARE EXPECTED TO CLEAR IN THE CENTRAL INTERIOR TODAY AND IN
THE EASTERN INTERIOR TONIGHT AND FRIDAY. AS CLOUDS CLEAR OUT
TEMPERATURES IN VALLEYS WILL DROP INTO THE 40S BELOW ZERO. PARTS
OF THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL INTERIOR WILL SEE 50S BELOW ZERO BY
FRIDAY NIGHT.

THE SOUTHERN INTERIOR INCLUDING FAIRBANKS WILL SEE A SLIGHT
INCREASE IN TEMPERATURES STARTING SUNDAY BUT IT IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN COLDER THAN NORMAL THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

:brrr:
I suspect you are right, John. If we are frozen out again this Saturday, I will be offering to try again.

If people dont trek down to cantwell on the 4th I would be up for going to the flats then if anybody is interested. I was out there last weekend and there is alot of
fresh powder out there.
