April 11

#1 Post by paulneva »

Anybody up for a local ride on the 11th? I am thinking White Mountains by way of the McKay Creek Trail. I have never gone into the Whites that way. Meet at Chatanika Lodge at 0900? Before 0900? All that assumes the snow hasn't melted by the 11th.

I might be up for the ride, was thinking about doing some exploring. Maybe go up to Windy Gap from there ? Snow was excellent Sat at the Gap from the Elliott side.

A Saturday ride into the Whites sounds good to me. Post the info and I'll plan on it.

Let's meet at Chatanika Lodge and leave there at 0930. The plan is to unload at the McKay Creek Trailhead (MP 42.5) and ride into the White Mountains toward Cache Mountain and Windy Gap.

Tyler and I will be there but I plan to have breakfast at Chatanika, so 9:30 departure may be a bit premature :P

But we'll catch up to you on the trail...

Just got back from the Whites this afternoon. We went Friday morn and stayed at the Moose Creek Cabin. Sledding was good, looks like it was up here as well. I'll post a couple of pics in a day or tow.

The prez and I rode from the parking area near Chucks place to Chatanika yesterday, the trail is exceptional forthe most part. The hill at the ditch is a little short of snow, probably will be bare by the weekend, But the rest of the trail was the best I have seen in ten years, good job Chuck!!
Sure do love sledding at +50 degrees.

Wife and I rode from Cleary to Chat up the hill towards white mountain but trail was out when it came back on the Haystack road. Also went down the old F. E. power line trail was good. 4/13.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Hey Brian!

Sorry you didn't make it. It was a fun ride. The overflow was there, but where we had problems last year it was flat and smooth, as long as you stayed on the upstream side. A little too much downstream and it was like a waterfall, it was that steep. Probably wouldn't see you until you reached the Yukon :e_smile:

We had problems in other areas, but nothing too serious, as long as you didn't step into the water (a couple of us did, shin deep). Having a studded track and fresh skegs takes all the anxiety out of traversing solid overflow. :fluffly:

You guys going to Cantwell on the 25th? :sledwave:

Juan
