Cantwell, March 21 - 22

#1 Post by john »

Rooming is limited this year with the closing of Lazy J and the Cantwell Lodge.

The Backwoods Lodge has the Small Cabin with 1 Queen Bed available.

There is also the Denali B&B which has rooms at 907.768.2020.

I'm calling the Cantwell Lodge and see if anything has changed and will update. But so far as I know the bar is open, the restaurant and rooms are not :<(

I'm asking for RSVP on this trip... If no one RSVP's me, I may be somewhere else riding although I will stay in Cantwell for the night.

Pat and are are planning on going. If we can get lodging, we will make it a two day ride. If not, we will make it a day trip, but we are planning on going as long as the ride isn't cancelled.

If the NOAA reports are correct, we may be riding into Caribou Lakes. With all the new snow make sure you have a good powder sled. Don't know how the trail, if any trail even exist yet, are.

Hey John

>With all the new snow make sure you have a good powder sled.

After reading this, I began to wonder if my sled would be suitable for this ride.(X-fire 136" -1.25" track)

My boss and his friend went to Cantwell last weekend and he said in some spots the snow was crusty at the top and below the crusty laywer was very powderly to the bottom with no
base. When stuck, it took them 2 1/2 hours to get their mountain sleds unstuck.

Naoki,

John was driving down tonight and is probably already gone. The answer to your question is that we aren't going to go anywhere your sled isn't designed to go. You might get stuck, any of us might get stuck. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for your response! I had never ridden in Cantwell area so I was a bit concerned.

I will see you there tomorrow! Looks like we will be having a beautiful day over there.
