Snowmobile Safety Education Summit

#1 Post by mcghand »

The North America Outdoor Institute will host a special two-day safety summit to be held in Anchorage, Alaska Friday, Nov. 19th and Sat. Nov. 20th to review and help establish a standardized curriculum for snowmobile safety education in the state of Alaska.

During the past few years, with support from the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation (DPOR,) the North America Outdoor Institute (NAOI) has been working to develop snowmachine curriculum to help promote safe winter travel in the state of Alaska. Operating under a grant from the DPOR, NAOI will host this summit with snowmobile stakeholders to review and comment on the safety curriculum developed from past projects and introduce the curriculum proposed for this winter training season.

The summit is intended to bring together people that have been riding, teaching and practicing safe snowmobile procedures for many years in an effort to define what should and should not be included. The panel of experts will include professional instructors, riders, vendors, program directors, club members, SnowTRAC committee members and DPOR staff. These individuals will make short presentations on their experience, ideas and suggestions for what all riders should know before setting out across Alaska on a snowmachine, whether it is on a groomed trail or a cross-country traverse to a favorite recreation area.

NAOI cordially invites you to participate in this special workshop. If you are able to attend, please RSVP at info@naoiak.org or by calling our office at 907-376-2898. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas as we move forward in educating the public to reduce the number of unnecessary accidents that occur each year during the riding season.
