Iron Dog First: Live TV and Streaming of the Iron Dog Race

#1 Post by john »

(Anchorage, Alaska, U.S.A., 7 February 2011) The Iron Dog race will be LIVE broadcast and streamed online for the first time in its 28-year history.

In just two weeks, everyone will finally get to experience the excitement of the World’s Longest, Toughest Snowmobile Race -- the Iron Dog. Live television and online streaming will be provided by KTUU-TV Channel 2, the Official Television Station of the 2011 Iron Dog Race.

“The reach and exposure that live broadcast television and online streaming brings to the Iron Dog is long overdue.” says Kevin Kastner, Executive Director. “Racers, race fans and sponsors all benefit from this level of coverage. Thanks to our sponsors, KTUU and supporting advertisers we’ve been given a golden opportunity to elevate the Iron Dog to new heights.”

“It is one of the world’s toughest races, and we look forward to bringing this extreme challenge to our viewers and users,” said Steve MacDonald, news director. “We will be live at the Wasilla start, Fairbanks finish and we will be live in our newscasts from Nome,” he added.

Channel 2 News is seen in Southcentral Alaska and over 240 rural communities statewide. KTVF in Fairbanks is partnering with Channel 2 to air the coverage there.
On the web, users from around the country and world will be served with live streams, blogs and daily coverage and standing boards on www.ktuu.com.

Live coverage of the Start in Big Lake, Alaska begins Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Alaska Standard Time (3:00 p.m. Eastern) and run for approximately 75 minutes. Viewers will be able to watch on television statewide in Alaska via KTUU Channel 2 (Anchorage) and KTVF (Fairbanks).

Finish line coverage of the 1st Place team arriving into downtown Fairbanks on Saturday, February 26, 2011 is planned to begin sometime around 1:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. Eastern) for approximately 30 minutes.

Online streaming of the Start and Finish will be available at www.irondograce.com and via www.ktuu.com

This year’s television and web sponsors are Matanuska Telephone Association, Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., which is the manufacturer of the Ski-Doo line of snowmobiles, and Northern Air Cargo.
