Iron Dog

#1 Post by Darrell »

What do you think of the iron dog finish down town?
Looks like a accident waiting to happen to me no way you can control everything that happen in the Noyes slough. Take the dike to cushman street then run down street for a down town finish

I agree, but was voted down on that. I was actually thinking Tanana or the Dike road to the Floodway at Chena Lakes, through the Floodway to the Chena and downtown. A bit longer but safer.

I think were going to use Flag Sleds to lead the racers from Pike's to where Noyes Slough re-enters the Chena around Grayle (Spelling) park.

No matter what we do there are always the Nay sayers.

Lats months article drew lots of comments about how unsafe it would be to go through Noyes, now its how bad it will make the race....

I'd say its a win win win Pikes still has the finish and town gets some of the action and Iron Dog gets a kick back form the city..Who knows News mangler may have pic of the race since it going to finish close to their front door

Pikes has the "timed" finished, but the racers are still on the track under the yellow flag, so don't break down and you better make the finish line. :geek:

But it is a win win for all and I think its time we (sledders) got a better rap in town and this is a good start in that directions.

I don't think it was necessary. I think it was just fine to finish at Pikes now the Yukon 800 should move to the Cushman street bridge too.

The city has been after the Iron Dog for a couple of years to have a finish down town. It was not a feasible choice until this year. My opinion is this, if it draws attention to the down town area during a time of year when there isn't much tourist traffic, the city as well as the rest of the area in whole can benefit. There will always be a negative to anything anyone does in this town because there is such a diverse group of people here. As a club, and especially a snowmachine club, we should do what we can to promote the sport as long as it's done in a safe manner. Many people who would not normally get involved will probably come just to see "what all the fuss is about". A perfect opportunity for the snowmachine community to show that we can put together events that can be enjoyed by everyone.
