Oil Tank lines

#1 Post by TheBearAk » Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:22 pm

I've worked on a lot of different sleds and most of them have just a single line coming out of the bottom of the tank.

My 1995 Summit 583 has an oil tank with 3 lines. One is the main one coming out of the bottom, then there is a 2nd one that is about 2" from the bottom, and a 3rd about 4" from the bottom.

The lines coming out of the ones on the side look like they go into the intake manifold, but I could be wrong. The Summit from that year had a very odd setup for the carbs and manifold.

Main oil line: To bleed the main oil line (line
between the oil tank and pump):

a. Loosen the bleeder *beep* (Figure 3) or the
clamp on the upper hose attached to the side
of the oil tank.

b. Allow oil to bleed from the bleeder *beep*
or the loosened hose until there are no air
bubbles in any of the oil lines.

c. Tighten the bleeder *beep* or hose clamp.

Small oil lines: To bleed the small oil lines
(lines between oil pump and intake manifold)
(A, Figure 4), start the engine and allow it to idle.

Then hold the pump lever (B, Figure 4) in the
fully-open position. When there are no air bubbles
in the hoses, release the pump lever and turn
the engine off.

Been away from the forums for a while. Thanks for the reply, however it looks like your posting how to bleed the lines to get rid of the air.

I found out the 3 lines were:

1 - main line going to the oil pump
2&3 send and return for center crank bearing lubrication.
