The National Park Service announced Tuesday that additions to Denali National Park and Preserve north of the Alaska Range are now open to snowmachining,

Recent storms have produced adequate snow cover in the northern areas that were added to the original park in 1980 to allow the use of snowmachines, the Park Service said. Additions south of the Alaska Range remain closed to snowmachine use due to inadequate snow cover.

The Park Service said riding conditions are potentially dangerous due to recent heavy snowfall and high winds. Avalanche hazard is high due to wind crusts and layers in the snow pack. It is important to avoid steep slopes, narrow valleys, and ravines, the Park Service said. There are many areas of thin ice or open water on rivers.

Lands within the former Mount McKinley National Park on both the north and the south sides of the AlaskaRange are closed to all snowmachine use by federal regulation. Maps with GPS coordinates for the park and preserve boundary are available on the park website at www.nps.gov/dena/parkmgmt/park-boundary-info.htm.

Regulations and information regarding snowmobiling in Denali National Park and Preserve is available on the web at www.nps.gov/dena/planyourvisit/snowmobiling.htm.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I down loaded the PDF and GPX files they listed and set them up on here for anyone who needs or wants access to them.

The GPX and PDF files are at

http://www.snowtravelers.org/Denali_Park.php

I also add these to the Map Database for future reference.

An interesting comment online and references in regards to Denali Nat'l Park and all Fed lands in Alaska.
A lot of that park land should still belong to the State of Alaska. The Federal Government broke their promises that they made in the Statehood agreement. I digitized and uploaded these videos from Hickel's Broken Promises tape several years ago. Here they are.

Also the "Going Up in Flames' report from Commonwealth North about how the federal government locked up Alaska's land is at:

Thank you Wally Hickel.
