Denali StatePark

#1 Post by john »

I know its a long drive, but .... they got snow
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Recent snowfalls have allowed the opening Friday of the entire area of Denali State Park to the use of snowmachines.

Alaska State Parks staff determined there's enough cover to protect underlying vegetation.

Snowmobiles must be registered with the Division of Motor Vehicles to operate legally on public land.

Forgive my ignorance here. But isnt the area around Cantwell west of the Parks considered Denali State Park?

Or is this talking about Petersville area?

Tell me where to drive for snow and I will go!!! :thumbleft:

The area west of Cantwell is Denali National Park and Preserve: http://www.nps.gov/dena/index.htm

Denali State Park is further south: http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/units/denali1.htm

For sledding around Petersville: http://www.curryridgeriders.com/

Best riding I hear is towards Petersville, take the Parks Hwy to Mile Post 115 (Petersville Road), turn right (west) and head into the parking area, about 13 miles back. To Kroto Creek.

If you need a place to stay, I've was told that the Trapper Creek Inn http://trappercrkinn.com/ridepetersville.html was good place to stay.

Wife and I are heading down during X-Mas week, plan to stay 5 to 7 days.

So I'll have to pass on this coming weekend.

Just want to go and ride! I am up for a ride in some deep stuff. Weather it be down in the state park, summit, or any where else that has got a decent amount of snow that has not blown away.
