Anyone been to Cantwell???

#1 Post by alaska_lanche »

Anyone been to Cantwell lately?? I grew up there and still have a cabin there but haven't been there in a few months. Just wondering if anyone has been through there recently. Kind of hard to tell from the FAA weather cams on the slope which is all I got up here on the slope.

Thanks

Not yet. Was planning on going next weekend if the snow is deep enough, if not then to McLaren. Dean is driving down to AnchorTown on Wed and is suppose to call me give a Cantwell snow report.

I'll post as soon as I hear from him.

A cabin hun, I'm jealous ... Got rooms to rent :)

Have to talk to Jack and Jan at the Caribou Lodge lately ?

Thanks John,

Yeah it is nice have the cabin not gonna lie about that. :) Especially since its right in "new" cantwell and the guy across the street plows it out for us now that we are Valley trash.

Let me know about the Snow Report. I would go on the rides out of Cantwell with ya. But both of your scheduled rides there are when I'm up here on the slope. :( Oh well.

Haven't talked to Jan or Jack, but I'm gonna call a buddy that plows for DOT out of Cantwell see what he knows.

Let us know what the DOT guy says. Unless we get more here I'm not to keen on riding locally.

I am planning on riding the Igloo area this friday through sunday, I heard there is enough snow for riding there. Happy Turkey Day!

What's enough ?

It's snowing here, but I'd like to ride in Cantwell unless I have to lead the White Mtn's run.

Cantwell Weather

Today
Snow west of the Parks Highway mixing with or changing to rain in the afternoon. Additional snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches with a storm total snow accumulation of 6 to 12 inches. Snow north of Talkeetna this morning tapering off by afternoon. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches. Cloudy with a slight chance of rain and snow elsewhere. Highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s. Northeast wind 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight
Rain and snow likely west of the Parks Highway with up to 2 inches wet snow accumulation. Cloudy with a chance of rain and snow elsewhere. Lows in the mid 20s to lower 30s. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph

Hummmm, have to hope the rain is minimal and the roads aren't too icy :)

Yes I will be careful, I still have not decided if I will go. I checked the forcast and they are calling for some snow this evining and tomorrow. This warm spell is a bummer, it seems like our winters are gettting shorter and shorter. Hopefully it will get better.
Have a good ride.
