Fairbanks International Airport is looking for volunteers

#1 Post by john »

Every three years Fairbanks International Airport is required by the FAA to conduct a mass casualty incident exercise. This year our exercise will take place on Tuesday, August 12th at 7:00 pm. The exercise will be a simulated aircraft accident in a controlled environment so that the exercise can be conducted safely and that productive training can be completed.
Here is what we are looking for:

We are in need of volunteers to act as: “Passengers/Victims” from the aircraft accident and “Family and Friends of Passengers/Victims” who go to the terminal looking for information on their loved ones.

“Passengers/Victims”

We need 60 Passengers/Victims who will be “injured” in some capacity (walking wounded to possibly severely injured). The Passengers/Victims will meet at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and be bussed to the exercise scene and returned to FMH after or as part of the exercise. (Further details will be disseminated closer to the date of the exercise). At FMH prior to the start of the exercise, Passengers/Victims will be “moulaged” – make-up and/or bandages applied to make the injuries appear real.

“Family Members or Friends of Passengers”

We are also in need of approximately 30 Family Members or Friends of Passengers that will meet at the Fairbanks International Airport terminal, participate in the exercise and be released after your part is completed.

Officer Burge has been assigned as the Volunteer Coordinator for this exercise. Her task is not small, the FAA requires a Triennial Exercise have at least 60 victims for an airport the size of Fairbanks International. We have already had 22 people sign up to be “passengers/victims” and are now putting the word out for more volunteers. We would love to see our community get involved and help us train so that we can better serve the public!

If you would like to participate (18 and older please) or have any questions, please send an email to volunteervictims@gmail.com and include your name, age, contact information and the role you are interested in playing (Passenger/Victim or Family Member or Friend of Passenger).

Thank you for your interest and for your help!
