Need rescue! use a beacon!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Whenever I go "away from people" I carry the SPOT personal locator beacon. its not 100%, but it does add a level of comfort.

I carry a Delorme inReach http://www.inreachdelorme.com/product-i ... tphone.php with me every where we go. When I am alone I run it in tracking mode so it reports my location every 10 minutes. Anyone with with the address of my page on their website can follow me. It will also send pre-programmed messages to phones or email addresses. It will also send SOS calls to the International Emergency Response Coordination Center. You receive a conformation that your messages were received.

When used in conjunction with my smart phone I can send and receive text messages to a phone or email address. I can add a text message to the emergency SOS transmission explaining my situation and stay in contact with the EMS people.

I have used this unit extensively since I bought it over a year ago and it has worked as advertised. I have been from Dawson to Hawaii with it.

Anyone who wants to see my wanderings up here on Cleary and our trip to Summit last week check it out here

Hummmm..... makes me think about what Jody told us about at the April meeting about the problems getting AST to go out on a rescue?

Delorme has just released their latest version of the inReach, the inReach SE. Apparently this one has the send and receive and texting functions built into it.
