It is a long story but the short version is that my machine needed repair and I decided to ride it to Compeau’s. It was Monday afternoon. We had 18 inches of new snow. The snow was no longer falling but the wind was still blowing. I live on Chena Ridge which meant I would ride down the hill and ride the Tanana to the Chena to Compeau’s. I ended up abandoning my machine in a big drift on the north bank of the Tanana near the mouth of the Chena and walking out.
I had promised to help John Johnston on some Iron Dog tasks this week so I e-mailed him the story so he would know I was no longer going to be able to help. He immediately asked if I needed help getting my machine recovered. I did. Yesterday afternoon he took off work and we got my machine out of that drift and turned in at Compeau’s. I really thought that it was great of John to take off work to help me.
