Lost Fairbanks snowmachiner sets ride on fire to keep warm

#1 Post by john »

And another one burns his sled for lack of carrying survival gear..... Man, talk about an expensive heating bill.....
FAIRBANKS — A Fairbanks snowmachiner, Andrew Noble, 28, lit his ride on fire to stay warm early Saturday after he became separated from friends while traveling to his cabin southwest of Nenana.

Noble had no survival gear, although temperatures in the area registered 20 below zero and colder at the Nenana Municipal Airport.

James Ahiers called the Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks about 3:30 a.m. to report his brother was lost and stranded without fuel and supplied a cellphone number for him.

Troopers were able to make intermittent contact with Noble.

Noble reported getting separated from the other members of his party, all on separate snowmachines, and drove around until running out of fuel.

He told troopers his two friends did not know the location of his cabin and he was worried about their well-being.

Troopers located Noble with the help of a chartered helicopter from Bristow Air Service in Fairbanks and flew him to Fairbanks where he declined medical attention.

Trooper aircraft found Noble’s friends at the cabin safe and warm.

Noble’s family and friends were providing assistance to the remaining members of Noble’s party to ensure safe travel back to Nenana.

I wonder how well it burned, as the article said he ran it out of gas first.
