Local trail users are invited to help restore a damaged trail in Skyline Ridge Park on Saturday, September 30 (Public Lands Day), from 9am to 1pm.

The Goldstream Connector Trail (aka the Van Trail) was damaged by some misguided 4WD trail users earlier this year. Meanwhile, the trail has been closed to the public. This work party will help restore the trail and open it back up.

Before September 30, a trail contractor will use heavy-duty equipment to smooth out ruts in the trail and build dirt features that will shunt water off the trail. This will help reduce future water erosion. The trail dozer does great work, but hand work is needed to finish the job. That’s where you come in! Using hand tools, volunteers will help clean up the work done by the trail dozer so that the trail is again ready for use by the public.

WHAT TO BRING

Volunteers should dress warm and for inclement weather and must wear sturdy, close-toed shoes, gloves and eye protection. There will be some extra pairs of gloves and safety glasses, but people should bring their own if they have them. Everyone will need to sign a waiver.

PARKING

Parking is limited at the trailhead, so please meet at the Musher’s Hall parking lot at Farmer’s Loop Road at 9am so we can carpool to the Skyline Ridge Trailhead at the corner of Noel Drive and M.I.A. Street (in the Cranberry Ridge Rd/Skyline Ridge Rd./Summit Drive area).

THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS

This trail work party is happening thanks to REI, Alaska Trails and the FNSB Parks and Recreation Department. And, of course, the essential volunteers!
