Snowmachining closed at Denali

#1 Post by REVITUP »

Because of the deterioration of the snow pack, snowmachining in Denali National Park and Preserve is closed and several trails in the Cantwell area will be closed until June 15 to protect vegetation and soils from damage during breakup, according to a press release issued by the National Park Service on Monday.

All park lands that were open for snowmachine use are closed as a result of warm temperatures that have melted most of the snow in the area.

Five ATV trails in the Cantwell area were also temporarily closed because of wet conditions. As of Friday, the Windy Creek Trail, Cantwell Airstrip Trail, Pyramid Trail Cantwell Creek Floodplain Trail and the Bull River Floodplain Trail are closed to the use of off-road vehicles for 45 days,

The closure will help the trails dry and sustain ORV traffic, according to the park service.
