getting US TOPO's to Ozi

OK, I'm having a heck of time getting OziExplorer to read my topo maps.
Ozi wants maps with a .map extension. I have .IT3 extension for the BigTopo Maps and .tpp for the Nat'l Geo maps.
So what am I missing here. I tried to convert them with no success and even download the converter listed on the Ozi site.
Guess I need some step by step help...
