Upgrading my skis

#1 Post by jasjew »

I'm looking at putting some new wider skis on my ventures before the beginning of next season. Do you guys recommend going 8 inch or 10 inch wide skis. I'm looking at the Simmon skis. As some of you know, Jewell and I are not much of power riders and like the packed trails. Thanks for your help and look forward to doing a lot of riding this winter. :needsnow:

wide skies are usually for powder snow. Keeps the nose up.

Ski skins are typically how people do that too.

As a witness to the last March ride to Deadman Lake I would recommend 10" wide skis, lol! BearAK is right, it's going to help keep that nose up if you happen to go off trail. And shouldn't hurt the trail ride any either, some good carbides will keep a good bite on the trail. The wide skis will just help keep you out of sticky situations if for some reason one of those heavy Venture's decides to jet off the trail! Look forward to seeing you out there on the trail this season Jason and Jewell! :sledwave:

My first machine had very narrow skis. It would roll over any time a ski got close to the edge of a trail. I put skins on and they fixed the problem. As heavy as your machines are, I would recommend 10" skis even if most of your riding is on trails.

Slydogs? Is that the whole ski replacement or is that just a skin?

$350 seems like a lot of money to me. I had some skins on my Touring and I think I paid $70 for the pair. Those were 7-8" wide.

Slydogs are the whole custom skis. You should be able to find "skins" for under $100.00.
