Guess I should have given a report of the Chatanika ride since I guided it  . We left the lodge around 11:30 Sunday morning and headed up the Red Trail toward the Circle Trail. It was a Beautiful day. Temps on top around 20. Rode the Circle Trail to the Fairbanks Creek Road and up the road two...

Cleary Summit Grooming

We groomed out toward Fish Creek 2 miles from Cleary Summtit today. I think we got the worst part of it. Didn't have time to go all the way to Fish Creek. We groomed out toward Gilmore Dome but quit as it didn't need it and all we were doing was ruining the powder riding. Also groomed all the way to...

Chena Hot Springs Road/Chatanika Trail

Just checked out the trail from Cleary Summit to Fish Creek. The trail is rough, however the Fish Creek crossing that gave us fits 2 weeks ago has filled up with overflow and frozen solid, no water. Should be good for the rest of the winter. Temp. at Fish Creek was minus 10. Here on Cleary Summit it...

Funds

Sounds like we should push for this money to be put out in trail grants. TRAKK money is for both motorized and non-motoized even though the money comes from federal gas tax paid by motorized trail users. Sno-Trac grants have to be primarily for snowmobile use and the funds come from Alaska Snowmachi...

Yellow Trail, Chatanika to Haystack

As you can see from the photos John just posted we sunk the Chatanika LMC Groomer in the Chatanika River where the Yellow Trail crosses the river  . Not to worry! After pulling it out of the river and changing the transmission oil we drove it back to Chatanika :D . There is a river crossing jus...

Hi, To get to Chatanika from Ivroy Jacks go straight accross Goldstream Road from Ivory Jacks and up Jones Road, north for about 1 or 2 miles to where Jones Road makes a 90 degree turn to the left, west. Turn right onto the trail to the right, east. Go a hundred or so yards to an intersection with t...

When the Chatanika/Cleary Summit Trail started to erode after fire fighters used it this summer I called Alaska Forestry. They surveyed it with me and then came back and put in water bars to stop the erosion. They have been very co-operative.

I gave all my sledding buddies folding brush saws for Christmas. Artic Fire and Safety has them for 15 bucks.

Chatanika-Chena Hot Springs Road Trail

Yesterday I broke out the section of the Chatanika/Chena Hot Springs Road Trail across Fish Creek and up the Hillbilly Highway to Iowa Ridge. The road on Iowa Ridge has not been plowed this year and has been well packed by snowmachine traffic. The trail to Iowa Dome and Ridge from Iowa Creek and Che...

Cleary Summit to Crowberry

Margaret and I rode to Crowberry in the Whites yesterday. As I'm sure you all know the Crowberrry Cabin burned this summer. The trail from our place on Cleary Summit to Chatanika is great, well groomed. The Yellow Trail from Chatanika to Haystack is somewhat rough but Ron at Chatanika is planning on...

Chatanika/Chena Hot Springs Road Trail

Margaret and I rode from home, (Cleary Summit) down the trail to Fish Creek today. Fish Creek has frozen over and started to Glacier. We took snow scoops and built ramps down to the ice from both sides and then "boot packed" them. We didn't try crossing as the snow needs time to set up. It...

More on Cleary

We rode the Alpha C Site Trail from Cleary Summit to Fish Creek yesterday. It's great. We took snow scoops and filled in the approaches to Fish Creek. We did not cross with our sleds as we want to give it a day or two to set up. Later this week we'll probably break it out at least as far as Iowa Dom...
