Re: Way off topic...boilers

I'm more of a hands on type of person. Helped a friend put a gas boiler into his house and when the guy came over to inspect the system before turning on the gas, he asked who the contractor was, when we told him we did it he said that it was done better than most contractors. I think this was mostl...

Way off topic...boilers

I'm looking to replace my 1980's Burnham boiler with something a little more modern and efficient. The problem I have is looking online for reviews is very muddied up with advertising and I just don't see any definitive site that points out good and bad. Plus, many of the reviews include boilers tha...

Re: Nenana comission trail

They did a lot of gas exploration over in that area. There is a facility built back in there now.

Re: Suggestions for figuring out what machine to buy?

$2k seems pretty high to me, but then again, I had a machine seize a bearing to the crank just 50 miles after replacing Pistons and Cylinders due to the oil pump failing. Pistons were $100 each, Cylinders $125, crank $500, seals and gaskets, $40. Basically everything except the crank case itself. $9...

Re: Nenana comission trail

BTW - They are sticking to the road and the building site. The trails are pretty much the same as always. If the road is ride-able by snowmachine, it does cut off a lot of time getting to them.

Re: Nenana comission trail

A friend of mine has been communicating with DOT people as well as the people in charge of the graders and dumps. The issue that we were running into is the fact that getting to the trail head requires driving across large berms and gravel roads for lengthy periods. Evidently someone put in a bridge...

Re: Suggestions for figuring out what machine to buy?

Friends and relatives have purchased and sold and re-purchased several new utility machines in the past few years and I'll try to list them: 09 and 10 Skandik WT 550 fan - The only flaw we ever found with them is the 550 fan motor is a gas hog. Typical 4-5 MPG. Otherwise these were great machines. P...

Re: Clothing

Depends on the expected temp. I usually keep something extra in the bag, but overdressing, even in layers can be a hassle. Above -10 I typically just wear jeans with snow bibs on top. t-shirt, fleece and coat on top is good for just about any temp. Coat should be something that sheds snow/water real...

Information to Go (helpful hint)

Between my family and friends we have a variety of different sleds. Each time I went to get items like belts or spark plugs it got to be a guessing game of what to purchase, so I put together a list that I call my Snowmachine Cross-Ref. I listed all my machines along with my brothers and a couple fr...

Re: Oil Tank lines

Been away from the forums for a while. Thanks for the reply, however it looks like your posting how to bleed the lines to get rid of the air.

I found out the 3 lines were:

1 - main line going to the oil pump
2&3 send and return for center crank bearing lubrication.

Oil Tank lines

I've worked on a lot of different sleds and most of them have just a single line coming out of the bottom of the tank. My 1995 Summit 583 has an oil tank with 3 lines. One is the main one coming out of the bottom, then there is a 2nd one that is about 2" from the bottom, and a 3rd about 4"...

Burning Rubber

I got reminded of the story a year or so ago about the couple guys that got stuck up in the mountains and they ended up burning their machines to survive. It made me wonder if they had a knife? I know by the time you decide to do something like that, you're probably pretty desperate. With a knife, y...
